About El Paso, TX
In
1958, El Paso,TX and Juarez, Mexico both had almost 270,000 people each, and
the previous decade had been one of fantastic expansion with 100% growth. The
old “wild
west” town was maturing into a metroplex right in the middle of
a dynamic and changing region of the world. The Miner football team had,
the year before, won 6 games out of 9, but followed that performance by winning
only two games in 1958. Trolleys still took people from downtown El Paso
to Juarez for 10 cents.
Today, the Paso del Norte region is home to 2.2 million people. The culture
and people are entering a new era of technology and connection. Some things
never change; the people are still honest and hardworking. The UTEP miners keep
repeating history, and we still keep on loving them. El Paso is ever more the
international hub of the Southwest. An excellent road system connects El Paso
to the surrounding regions and cities including Mexico. The unfortunate events
of 9/11 have caused the US federal government to make the walls a bit higher.
But we are still one urban area, one road network, one place to live a good
life. Commerce is still swift and profitable. There is a greater prosperity
for everyone including Chihuahua and the rest of Mexico. We are working together.
The
Paso del Norte region is very important to Economy Cash and Carry and we take
special pride in helping our corner of the world grow and reach for it’s
potential. Our corporate headquarters are here along with all of our facilities.
We believe in the people of this community. That is why we are building a new
Customer Service Center here. Economy Cash and Carry has a special role to
play here. The better we do our job, the better people here live. And that
means the world to us.
